Matthew Bellamy of Muse.
On September 24, 2009 at Giants Stadium in New Jersey, Muse and U2 played a double bill for a night of exhilarating entertainment. While Muse is still trying to make it big in the United States, they are massively successful worldwide. In fact, their latest album “The Resistance,” was just released on September 14, 2009 and has already gone to number one in 16 countries. I saw people wearing “Who cares about U2, I came to see Muse” T-shirts at the show and when they came on stage, they were electric. Lead singer Matthew Bellamy plays guitar that a Jimi Hendrix fan would appreciate and sings like a lesser-depressed version of Thom Yorke of Radiohead.

Karen O. of Yeah Yeah Yeahs
New York based indie band Yeah Yeah Yeahs played a sold out show in their home city on September 23, 2009 at Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan. They had a really cool backdrop on stage, which consisted of gigantic beach ball eye-balls. I know they were beach balls because towards the end of the show, they were released into the audience, which went crazy tossing them up in the air. Their music has been featured in all of the uber-popular recent TV shows and lead singer Karen O. definitely has a stage presence that can be felt even up in the cheap seats. The performed hits such as Maps, Y Control and Date with The Night. Were they great live? Is Karen O. totally awesome? Did I have a good time? Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!

Renee Scroggins of ESG
Emerald, Sapphire and Gold, better known as ESG, the trio of sisters from the South Bronx in New York, reunited for a special show on September 23, 2009 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, supporting New York darlings the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.ESG were pioneers in the 1980s of fat beats and lush grooves that eventually would be sampled for decades to come by the elite in hip-hop such as the Beastie Boys, Tricky and Wu-Tang Clan. A fun fact about ESG: they were produced by Joy Division’s producer Martin Hannett. Just a few nights ago, they played their first show since 2007 and the crowd in New York City was sure glad to have them back!

Moby!
On September 21, 2009, Moby played the Fillmore East at Irving Plaza in New York City. I was lucky enough to see the sold out show and Moby did not disappoint. While the decision from the audience to watch the action rather than participate in a 90 minute dance party was a little strange to me, I left the venue with no complaints. Moby told stories about seeing shows at Irving Plaza and also played crowd favorites such as Body Rock, Honey, Porcelain and We Are All Made of Stars. And we are!
