JD Salinger Dies

Author of books such as The Catcher in the Rye and Nine Stories, JD Salinger has died.

The only personal experience I’ve had with Mr. Salinger was about 15 years ago when I’d obtained his home address and I wrote him a letter requesting his autograph.  I received a letter some weeks later saying “Please don’t EVER contact Mr. Salinger at his home.”

Rest in peace, just the same.

Neil Medlyn and Bridget Everett - Our Hit Parade

Another reason to love New York is for nights like January 27, 2010 where at Joe’s Pub, you can see a show like “Our Hit Parade.” Creators Neal Medlyn and Bridget Everett have put on this monthly show where they reinterpret songs that you all know and love.  Tonight’s theme was the top ten songs in the United States.  The songs are dramatically altered from their original versions and you are guaranteed to leave the Pub clutching your stomach from laughing so hard.  They were joined with a little help from their all-star friends such as Cole Escola (of Jeffery and Cole’s Casserole), Kenny Mellman, Amber Martin, PJ Deboy and the Beastie Boys’ Adam Horovitz (Aka Ad-Rock).

Dark Side of the Moon - Cabernet Savignon

As my readers know, I am a huge fan of classic rock and wine. You can imagine my delight when I discovered Wines That Rock.  They make a Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon Cabernet Savignon, a Rolling Stones 40 Licks Merlot and a Woodstock Chardonnay!  I have to say, the wines taste good too!  According2g recommends these wines if you want to combine a taste sensation with rock and roll.  Just remember to be safe while you consume these beverages.

Tonight at New York’s Chelsea Market Place, WENN (the World Entertainment News Network) celebrated 21 years of celebrity photography. Gail and I had a great time mingling with the rich and soon to be famous and the entire event was for a great cause.  WENN has set up the ability for fans to purchase high quality photos of celebs and they are donating all of the proceeds to Haiti relief.  You can find out how to participate here.  The exhibit will run from now until February 28, 2010.

Bloggers G of according2g.com and Gail of worleygig.com on the Red Carpet.

Here’s a tiny sample of what you can expect to see at this exhibit.

Radiohead live at All Points West - August 2008

Radiohead played a one off gig to raise money for Haiti last weekend in Los Angeles and details have emerged as to what the set list was.  They debuted a new song called “Lotus Flower.”  While I haven’t heard it, I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with a fan website where members can pay $77 a year to receive content long after it’s delivered for free on other sites.

According to NME, the setlist was:

‘Faust Arp’
‘Fake Plastic Trees’
‘Weird Fishes/Arpeggi’
‘The National Anthem’
‘Nude’
‘Karma Police’
‘Kid A’
‘Morning Bell’
‘How To Disappear Completely’
‘A Wolf at the Door’
‘The Bends’
‘Reckoner’
‘Lucky’
‘Bodysnatchers’
‘Dollars & Cents’
‘Airbag’
‘Exit Music’
‘Everything In Its Right Place’
‘You And Whose Army?’
‘Pyramid Song’
‘All I Need’
‘Lotus Flower’
‘Paranoid Android’
‘Street Spirit (Fade Out)’

For those that went, I hope you had a great time for a great cause and just know that I am uber-jealous!
