Damien Hirst: End of an Era - Now showing at the Gagosian Gallery (through March 6, 2010)

If you are in the New York area, you will not want to miss this exhibit: Damien Hirst – End of an Era at the Gagosian Gallery located on 980 Madison Avenue (don’t confuse it with the other Chelsea location).  The gallery does not allow photos, but I risked life and limb to share a few with you, my dear readers.  The above photo (on the right hand side) shows a bull’s head immersed in formaldehyde.  It needs to be seen to be believed!

Damien Hirst is reported to be the richest living artist to date (even richer than me!)  It’s easy to see why when you look at his masterpieces.  Not only is he filthy rich, but artists such as my beloved Banksy have paid tribute to him.  See that image as well as more from “End of an Era” after the jump.

The above Bansky painting is not included in this exhibit.  However, the following pictures are:

The next photo is pretty incredible.  It was hard to get a good shot on the fly, but it’s called Judgment Day (2009) and it’s a 30-foot long gold cabinet filled with approximately 30,000 manufactured diamonds!

If you could see the detail in this last photo, you’d see that the shapes inside these figures are an assload of butterflies.

You give me butterflies!

This exhibit runs until March 6, 2010, so go see it!!!  The Worley Gig has also reviewed this exhibit and you can read her musings here.
