The Temperamentals. Now Playing!
“The Temperamentals” is a play that is described as “Milk” meets “Mad Men.” For decades, it was thought that Stonewall in 1969 was the first gay activism in the United States, and this play shows that nearly 10 years prior, a group of gays in 1950 started the Mattacine Society, a group devoted to the welfare and protection of homosexuals. You’ll laugh, gasp and be so glad that this group took a stand for gay rights when it was so uncool to do so. The lead actor in “The Temperamentals” is Michael Urie (of the about-to-be-canceled show “Ugly Betty“) and he is so cute in the play that even if you are not into the gay thing, you won’t be able to take your eyes off him. Plus, if you are into the gay thing, he is shirtless in a couple of scenes! Fun fact: Urie’s character, Rudi Gernreich, was a a Hollywood costume designer and Viennese Jew who had escaped the Holocaust and who, years later, would become famous as the creator of the topless bathing suit.
The show debuts on February 28, 2010 at New World Stages located at 340 West 50th Street. Tickets can be purchased through Telecharge.

Eye No!
Minneapolis radio station The Current will be debuting a new Prince song on 2/26/10 at 7 am. The song is called “Cause and Effect” and it’s reported that the song will not suck anywhere nearly as bad as his last offering “Purple and Gold.”
The pictures above and below are from Mr. Brainwash’s current New York exhibit Icons. The art was made entirely out of pieces of broken records. There is no confirmation that Brainwash shattered all of the Purple One’s output in the 2000s to make these fantastic pieces.

My name is Prince and I'm an Icon!

Muse: Not Amused.
One of the greatest bands on earth, Muse, are not happy with their record label’s decision to stop putting their music on free streaming music services such as Spotify and We7. They’ve compared this decision to yanking songs off the radio. According2g says “free the music!”
In other Muse news, they are playing at Madison Square Garden in New York on March 5, 2010.

All Points West Festival
The New York Times is reporting that the All Points West Festival which has been held during the first weekend of August in New Jersey for the past 2 years might not happen this year. This is sad news indeed. In 2008, the festival featured Radiohead, Underworld, Duffy and Kings of Leon and last year Coldplay, Echo and the Bunnymen, Elbow and MGMT played. Though it typically rains the weekend they hold the festival and it can get pretty messy, I had a lot of fun both years.

The Courteeners - Falcon (out March 23, 2010 in the US. Out now in the UK)
Manchester, England-based band The Courteeners have released their second album “Falcon” in the UK. The stateside release is scheduled for March 23, 2010. Their music is sort of an amalgam of Blur, The Smiths and Oasis. I saw them open for Morrissey twice last year and I really enjoyed what I heard. They sold autographed copies of their debut album “St. Jude” for the bargain price of $10 at the show and I snatched one up. ”St. Jude” is very uptempo and was a great representation of their live act. ”Falcon,” while still rockin’ is much more mellow than their first album. For me, the highlights of “Falcon” are the uptempo rockers “Scratch Your Name Upon My Lips” and “You Overdid It Doll.” If I had to rate this album on a scale of A to G, I’d give it a solid B.
