Karen Elson.

Karen Elson is gorgeous!  You might know this Brit from her days as a supermodel where she graced the covers of Vogue, W, Elle and Nylon and was featured in international ad campaigns for Versace, Louis Vuitton, Gaultier, etc.  You might know her from her work in the New York based political cabaret group The Citizens Band.  You might know her from her work as a background vocalist for Robert Plant and Cat Power. You might even know her because she’s married to Jack White of the White Stripes.  But perhaps you did not now that Karen Elson made her debut as a solo performer on March 22, 2010 at Le Poisson Rouge in Greenwich Village in New York City and I was there to take it all in.

Karen Elson’s debut album “The Ghost Who Walks” will be released on May 25, 2010, but she gave the sold out crowd a preview of all good things to come.  The album is produced by her husband, Jack White, who could not be there tonight, as he is currently on tour.  Her music reminded me a lot of Alison Krauss, with a bit of darkness that could only be the signature sound of her husband’s production.  Her 13 song set kept the audience totally enraptured and we should expect her to conquer the music world in a few short months.  Vogue magazine legend Grace Coddington was in the audience and when I asked for a photo, she said “No.  This is Karen’s night.”  So much for love amongst fellow G’s.
