Rumors have been circulating for the last 6 months about The Killers lead singer Brandon Flowers going solo and as usual with rumors, this one has turned out to be true. Details are hazy about his first solo project, but the Killers official website has announced the title of the record will be called “Flamingo.” I am hoping he does a Julian Casablancas (The Strokes) or Gwen Stefani (No Doubt) jump the shark – type of record. I guess we’ll all just have to stay tuned.
On April 29, 2010 at the opening reception for artist Mark Ryden‘s latest exhibition: The Gay 90s Olde Tyme Art Show at the Paul Kasmin Gallery in Chelsea, I met the brilliant artist. For the non-art people reading this site, he designed Michael Jackson’s “Dangerous” album cover; however, definitely check out his other work – it’s incredible! If you are specifically interested in the album cover art he’s designed, here you go. He was super nice and also super mobbed. I always sort of feel bad for artists at their own openings as every single person wants a piece of you, so it’s hard to enjoy the reactions of people seeing your work for the first time. Well, Mr. Ryden, if you indeed missed it, everyone I spoke to in the gallery loved it with a capital L. Thanks again for enriching my life with really inspiring art and being so nice. And New Yorkers – the exhibit runs through June 5, 2010, so don’t miss it. Photos from the exhibit are coming soon. Stay tuned.
On April 25, 2010, artist Shepard Fairey gave a talk at the Brooklyn Museum to discuss his latest solo art show ”May Day” at Deitch Projects in New York from May 1 - May 30, 2010. I was fortunate enough to witness this event and before long Shepard Fairey talked about Banksy and his new film “Exit Through The Gift Shop,” which gets my vote as film of the year. As the clip opens, the moderator is reading a quote from Banksy in regards to Shepard Fairey. You can read more on one of my favorite sites: Happy Famous Artists. Team Shepard!!! Enjoy!
Moments after VV Brown’s triumphant first headlining show, I met the tremendously talented singer and she was V.V. nice! I told her that I had seen her first Manhattan show and that I gave it a glowing review on According2g and she was very thankful to me for believing in her. Truly, I don’t know how you could hear her music and not fall in love with it, but that’s just me. She signed a couple of items for me including her very excellent album “Travelling Like the Light” and she was kind enough to pose for a picture are well. My sincere gratitude to VV and I really cannot wait until she is a huge star!
I friggin’ love VV Brown, and “Crying Blood” is one of my favorites off her debut album “Travelling Like The Light,” which I highly recommend that you get! When she performed at the Bowery Ballroom in New York on April 28, 2010, she performed the track as we know it on the album and then right afterwards slowed it down for a reggae version! The lighting was a little funky so this is perhaps not the best video you’ll ever see, but you have to ask yourself the question – where else on earth will you get a chance to see this world exclusive video? The answer: According2g.com!
