What a night! A-Ha  have embarked on their final tour as a band and on May 6, 2010, they said their first farewell to New York City at the Nokia Theater in Times Square.  People from all over the world lined up as early as noon to get a good spot for the sold-out general admission show and it was well worth the wait.  Taking the stage right around 9 pm, the band played fan favorites and greatest hits (except for my beloved “Train of Thought”).  Backed with a really cool LED screen that changed into lots of crazy colors, the Nokia Theater was a sweat box of nostalgia, good times and sadness as this is the final tour for the Norwegian band.  The guys have to be into their 50s by now, but they looked and sounded as good as they did 20 years ago when they took the world by storm with “Take on Me.”  I was reflecting that “Take on Me” and “Sledgehammer” by Peter Gabriel are 2 of my favorite music videos of all time and I saw them both live this week!  Thanks universe!  Please keep bringing me more goodness.  The band played for just under 2 hours, but the audience demanded two encores.  Some of the songs played were “the Living Daylights,” “The Sun Always Shines on TV,” “Cry Wolf,” “Hunting High and Low,” “Stay on These Roads,” “Minor Earth Major Sky,” and of course, “Take On Me.”  You have two more chances to see A-Ha in New York as they have a pair of shows at the Nokia Theater this weekend, but you might have to go through StubHub as both shows are sold out. Trust me, it’s well worth it.  New York will miss you, A-ha.

Keep checking this space for more pictures of A-ha as well as a video of “The Sun Always Shines on TV.”

Thanks for the setlist. I’m disappointed as well that they didn’t play Train of Thought as that is one of my favorites and they have been playing it again recently.

a few corrections to the song titles-

All I Want You To Know = Analogue
How Can I Sleep With Your Voice In My Head = The Swing of Things

Don’t suppose Nadine was the cute golden/blonde with the pad and pen standing right in front of me by the stairs on the right side of the main floor of the theatre near the drunk Norwegians?

  • The G said,

Nadine had dark hair, but she is beautiful!

  • Brandi S. said,

They played the same set list every night, so nothing missed if you only went on the 6th. I was also very surprised they did not play Velvet or Lifelines!
