RIP Louise Bourgeois

I am saddened to hear the news that artist Louise Bourgeois died today. At the ripe age of 98, Bourgeois had been making art since she was 12 years old and the woman mastered a variety of styles from painting to sculpture. Last year I saw a retrospective of her work at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and I was really impressed with the breadth of her work. She literally did it all and that entire museum was filled with her works of art. After the exhibit, I had a dream about Louise Bourgeois that was really surreal and luckily our friends at The Worley Gig recorded it for posterity. A few fun facts about Louise Bourgeois: She became “famous” at the age of 70 when the first retrospective of her work was shown. She was born in France, but lived and worked in New York until her death today. Her works explored the themes of women’s sexuality and death. If you are unfamiliar with her work, I encourage you to check it out. It’s really diverse and really cool. Louise Bourgeois will be missed. RIP!

G, I think her show at the Guggenheim was in 2008, but doesn’t it seem like it just happened? So glad we got a chance to know her work. She was one of a kind and will be missed.

I saw an article that said it was 2009, but that would make sense if it was 2008 because it seemed like it was eons ago.
