Two Door Cinema Club live at the Bowery Ballroom

On May 12, 2010, Irish indie-pop/electronic band Two Door Cinema Club played their first ever headlining gig in Manhattan at the Bowery Ballroom. I’ve been really enjoying their debut album “Tourist History” for quite awhile now and the good news for the USA is that it was just released. The album hardly sounds like a first record and instead sounds like a greatest hits set as pretty much every song on “Tourist History” is catchy enough to be a smash single. They sound a bit like the band Phoenix, but with much better lyrics. Sometimes when you like an album so much, it’s scary to hear it performed live, because it always disappoints, but that was not the case with Two Door Cinema Club. Their live act was just as fun as the album and the sold-out crowd was loving every minute of it and sang along to every word of every song, including a couple of tracks that never made it to the album! They played all of my favorites including “Undercover Martyn,” “This Is the Life,” “What You Know,” “Come Back Home,” “I Can Talk” and my latest obsession “Something Good Can Work,” and all of them sounded great. There’ll be a video of “Something Good Can Work,” coming soon, but let me warn you now – the sound quality is crappy, so you should definitely check out the studio version. The band revealed that they would be back in the fall to play the much larger Webster Hall, so it looks like these guys are well on their way to super-stardom. I met the band backstage after the show and they were all extremely nice. More on that to come as well. I highly recommend “Tourist History” and I am sure it will make my best albums of 2010 list.
For now, enjoy some more pictures and the set list after the jump.
