An Encounter with Die Antwoord

Photos taken with my hand.

Yo-Landi Vi$$er of Die Antwoord and G.

Moments after South African satirical rap group Die Antwoord made their New York debut, I met the band.  They played the Creators Project Launch party at New York’s Milk Studios and unfortunately, I was unable to attend the performance as I was off seeing Interpol in a different section of the building.  Die Antwoord is Afrikaans for “the answer.”  The answer to the question “how cool are they to fans” is “very cool.”  As you can see from the above photo, Yo-Landi Vi$$er of the group was amazingly cool and as you will see below, Watkin Tudor Jones aka Ninja was also extremely nice.

Watkin Tudor Jones aka Ninja of Die Antwoord and G.

You might be wondering why Ninja was making this strange face in the photo?  I had taken the initial photo and he didn’t realize my camera had two flashes, so he moved and the first photo came out blurry.  When I explained that to him, he was truly horrified (as you can see in his expression) and he quickly corrected the situation.

I emplore you to check out Die Antwoord’s music because for lack of a better term, it’s totally rad!

Thanks again to Yo-Landi Vi$$er and Ninja for rockin’ and for being totally cool!

I am pretty sure Ninja and Yo-Landi would be pissed if they saw that you described them as “satirical”.
