I’ve been seeing street artist Jim Joe’s work for a few months now all over New York. Initially, my feelings were mixed. It’s not very complicated, but you have to respect the work of someone who brands their propaganda in risky places. Clearly, Jim Joe was all over the Lower East Side yesterday night as I counted about 6 fresh tags on my way home from a show at the Bowery Ballroom.
After the New Jersey based band The Static Jacks played a triumphant set opening for The Futureheads at the Bowery Ballroom on June 8, 2010, the band was loading their gear into their tour van only to find the van had been tagged by Jim Joe! My world of music and street art had collided! Though the band was visibly upset, they were cool enough to pose with their newly graffitied van to show the world what they think of Jim Joe.
FYI, Jim Joe – the band carries a Louisville Slugger bat and they are not afraid to use it. It should be interesting to see what happens in this music vs. street art scandal. Jim Joe’s work is available everywhere and The Static Jacks’ EP “Laces” is out now.
