What do you get when you take the best bits of The Bangles and mix them with the Go-Go’s?  The answer is Los Angeles based band The Like.  The Like opened for The Futureheads at a sold out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on June 8, 2010.  Dressed in 60’s go-go outfits, the band played a solid 40 minute set that had elements of the “girl group” sound as well as 60’s psychedelia, 80’s new wave and a bit of punk thrown in for good measure.  I really liked The Like (which ironically is one of their EP names – “I Like the Like”).  For the Prince fans reading this, you might already be familiar with the band’s 2005 debut album “Are You Thinking What I’m Thinking?” as it was produced by our beloved Wendy Melvoin of Wendy and Lisa.  Their songs are short and to the point and if you like any of the genres or bands I’ve mentioned in this review, I like to think you’ll like The Like too.  Say that ten times fast!

I think their drummer is the daughter of Pete Thomas from Elvis Costello & The Attractions.
