Murals are the new galleries and mediocre is the new amazing. On the corner of Bowery and Houston, a mural by Keith Haring used to exist. From what I’ve learned since writing my initial blog on the site, the mural was destroyed and a “tribute” mural was put in its place. Then Os Gemeos put up a mural on top of the Keith Haring mural in August 2009. In May 2010, Shepard Fairey built a wall in front of the Os Gemeos mural and put up a temporary May Day mural. It was only supposed to be up for one month, but it still stands to this day, although vandals have wrecked a lot of it with graffiti. A street artist channeling Keith Haring, speaking from the grave, wants his mural back! This image is on an ATM adjacent to the wall on Bowery and Houston Street. Oh, the drama!
