A Show About Nothing by Zak Smith. Now showing at Fredericks & Freiser in NYC through November 6, 2010.

I attended the opening night gala for artist Zak Smith’s latest solo show “A Show About Nothing” at Fredericks & Freiser on October 7, 2010.  I didn’t think the show was about nothing, but I did realize that as I was researching Smith’s life, I knew almost nothing about him!  Zak Smith (who also goes by the name Zak Sabbath) is not only an amazing artist but has also had a successful career in the world of alternative porn.  His drawings are simply stunning.  Executed with acrylic and ink, the detail in his works is incredible.  He’s involved in numerous charities such as Food Not Bombs and donates a lot of the money he makes in art and porn to this cause.  I met the artist at the opening night gala and he was super cool, as you will see below.

I love that Zak is wearing a Black Sabbath T-shirt!  We chatted about the ‘joys’ of having our names spelled wrong as our names are not spelled in the ‘common’ way. Zak was a totally cool guy and obviously makes really great art and has amazing hair.  Thanks again Zak!  “A Show About Nothing” by Zak Smith is now showing at Fredericks & Freiser in New York until November 6, 2010 and is located at 536 West 24th Street in Manhattan.  Don’t miss it!
