On October 16, 2010, I saw Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan’s first ever concert in New York City when they performed at Bowery Ballroom. My photos from the performance were not too great as they performed mostly in the dark so as to let the music have all the attention. Isobel Campbell is a former member of Belle and Sebastian and her voice is angelic. In addition to singing, she also played the cello.
Mark Lanegan’s voice is unmistakable. It’s deep and low and has so much character. The former lead singer of Screaming Trees and Queens of the Stone Age is on tour with Isobel Campbell and their voices together are a little slice of heaven. For lack of a better comparison, you could think of the Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue collaboration for a taste of their sound. For fans of Tom Waits or Mark Sandman of Morphine, you’ll love the noir-ish voice of Mark Lanegan and the album “Ballad of the Broken Seas,” is highly recommended. I met the pair backstage after their show and they were both so nice. Thanks Mark and Isobel! See you at the next show!
