Burlesque. Now Playing.

Please note, this commentary is spoiler free.  If you want to read a regurgitated plot line written by someone who was paid off in perks by a movie studio, you are obviously on the wrong site.  When I went to see “Burlesque,” starring Christina Aguilera and Cher I was expecting to loathe the film.  I’m not a big fan of Christina Aguilera and I’m famously known as being a movie curmudgeon, but I truly go into movies with an open mind.  Sure the story is nothing we haven’t seen a million times with slight variations on that theme. Sure there are limitations in the characters and glaringly predictable plot lines.  Sure there are not Oscar worthy performances, but I will say that I was entertained from start to finish.  Christina Aguilera worked it in all of the dance sequences and there were many.  I will also note that I was very intrigued to see Cher’s face as it’s obviously been stretched and pulled and botoxed to the max.  If you ask me (and obviously since you are reading this review, you have), Cher looked frightening.  She seems to have a lisp now because her lips won’t close.  She also has no wrinkles at all so she looks a lot like Voldemort from the Harry Potter franchise.  But she has so much on screen presence, you cannot take your eyes off her, and her body looks amazing.  I think if this movie becomes a hit, Christina Aguilera’s next tour is going to be a great success.  There’s no denying that the woman can belt out a tune effortlessly.   She turned a lot of people off with her teeny-bopper turned sex goddess image makeover, but this is the role she was born to play.  The dance numbers were sexy, but not dirty and I think it’s very refreshing considering most movies these days leave nothing to the imagination, and isn’t that the reason people go to the movies in the first place?  Personally, for all the flaws in the movie, it sure beats the hell out of most of what is out there – especially in regards to the last few blockbuster musicals that have been released.  Will you walk out of seeing “Burlesque” as a changed person?  Doubtful.  Will you walk out of the movie feeling that you got your money’s worth?  According2g, you will.

Did you see it?  Tell us your thoughts.
