On November 16, 2010, post-punk British indie band The Joy Formidable played a sold out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom. Aside from the fact that this marked the last show of their tour, the band was in a great mood, sincerely thanking the audience many times for coming. The Joy Formidable have played with everyone from Editors to Sir Paul McCartney and they’ve been blog darlings for years. As this was my first exposure to their music, I think they are worth the hype. Their songs are upbeat and catchy and they have a nice rock edge to them.
The band had one of the most bizarre stage setups I’ve ever seen with the drums on the right hand side of the stage, not facing the audience. There was also a sparse amount of gear on the stage, but it worked! The band rocked. A video of “Magnifying Glass” will be coming soon, so please be patient. I am merely one person with tons of fabulous experiences to write about.
See the set list after the jump.
