Hanni El Khatib

A few months ago, I was exposed to the music of Hanni El Khatib when he opened for Florence and the Machine at Terminal 5 in New York.  I fell in love instantly with his music.  His music is part blues, part garage rock, part soul, part folk and part doo-wop and according2g, it rarely gets better!  One of my reflections from that night was that I enjoyed the show so much, I will see him live whenever he comes around.  As my good fortune would have it, Hanni El Khatib played the Echo in Los Angeles on December 9, 2010 and I was there to catch all the action.  Once again, he was fantastic in concert!  He plays guitar like a rock god and his lyrics are spiked with a shot of gin. To make the night even better, he played the most rockin’ cover of Kelis’ “Millionaire” that you will ever hear.  He said to the crowd that “no set is complete without a little Kelis.”  Love it!  You can see a video of his soon to be classic “Build. Destroy. Rebuild.” on my Top 13 Bands to Watch in 2011 post.  You can purchase mp3s from his double A-side single “You Rascal You” and “Dead Wrong” from this link for the bargain price of $2.  Highly recommended.  Hanni El Khatib is playing in San Francisco tonight, December 10, 2010 at the Hemlock Tavern, so if you are in the area, I suggest that you check him out.  You won’t be sorry!
