I have been excited to see The Suckadelic Art Toy Universe: Retrospective and Pop-Up Store since reading about it on The Worley Gig a few weeks ago. We attended the opening night of Boo-Hooray’s Suck Shoppe Pop-Up store (located at 521 West 23rd Street between 10th and 11th) and it’s beyond amazing! With signs throughout the Stephen Kasher Gallery that state “you are an asshole for buying this,” I think it would be more appropriate to say “you are an asshole if you don’t want to buy this!” The pop-up store/exhibit has literally hundreds of action figure parodies including many from the Star Wars saga that will make you laugh out loud (see below for proof).
There are also many other action figures parodies from adventure sagas that are just begging to be made.
As you can imagine, the opening night gala was INSANE!
Pink Stormtroopers walked through the party with Stormtrooper-shaped cookies (not spiked). The trays had signs that said “You’re an asshole for eating these.”
See more images and a picture of the best fake deodorant of all time, after the jump.
At the opening, I purchased a “Star Wars Breakbeats” CD by Suckadelic, which features samples from the Star Wars saga over various dance beats. It’s amazing! My favorite track is probably the Bib Fortuna/Salacious Crumb/Jabba The Hutt sampled “Ne Jabba No Badda.” This exhibit is only happening from January 11 – January 23, 2011 from 11 am – 6pm, so do what it takes to attend! You’re an asshole if you miss this exhibit/pop-up show!
