Jane Russell
Very sad news out of Hollywood. Movie bombshell Jane Russell has died at age 89. I had the opportunity to meet Jane Russell many times and she was usually very nice to fans. I will never forget an autograph hound trying to get Jane Russell’s attention once and in a very small space, she yelled out, “JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNEEEE.” That became a source of smiles amongst my family for years! Jane was gorgeous throughout her life, proving that plastic surgery is not needed to grow old beautifully. After decades of being a sex symbol, Jane Russell became a very conservative Republican endorsing the Iraq War, speaking out against abortion (even in cases of rape and incest) and even crusaded to get the Bible “back in school.” Weird how that happens! At any rate, a legend has been lost. RIP Jane or as the autograph hound would say, “JAAAAAAAANNNNNNEEEE!”

Matthew Iwanusa of Caveman
On February 26, 2011, New York’s afro-beat/new-wave band Caveman opened for White Rabbits at a sold out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom. Lead singer Matthew Iwanusa announced that it was almost one year ago to the day when Cavemen played their first ever show. This was my first exposure to their music and I liked what I heard. Their bio describes their sound as “equal parts chamber pop, dreamscape, and horror film score. At a Caveman show you will hear four-part harmonies, spaced-out guitars, synths, and, yes, much drumming.” Good stuff. I was unable to locate free mp3s for you, but you can stream a bunch of songs on their myspace page (link is above).

I met lead singer Matthew Iwanusa of Caveman after the set and he was very cool. You can see a photo from that experience as well as the setlist after the jump. Thanks again Matthew and best of luck to Caveman.

Todd Goldstein of Arms
On February 26, 2011, Brooklyn based indie rock band Arms opened for White Rabbits at Bowery Ballroom. The 40 minute set consisted of tracks from Arms’ new EP entitled “Arms EP” as well as their debut release “Kids Aflame.” It was my first exposure to their music and the songs were up beat and rockin’. The band just finished a succesful residency at Pianos and I am looking forward to hearing more great things about the 4 piece band. No set list was posted, so I can’t help you out in that area, but what I can do is let you know that you can download “Arms EP” for free on their official site. I recommend it.

I met lead singer Todd Goldstein after Arms’ set and I told him how much I enjoyed their music. He was very cool. You can see a photo from that experience after the jump. Thanks again Todd and best of luck to you and Arms.

I have to Return Some Videos
Congrats to Christian Bale for his Oscar win In other Hate Death Fear, Sex Money Fame news, I hope you’ve been checking out Insurgency Inc.’s website for a daily dose of societal apathy. I know I have. How can you not love a website whose mantra is: “This shit on here it’s probably not ours. It’s probably yours and you’re probably pissed. Feel free to let us know. We might care. We might not. If it makes you feel better, you can steal some of our shit.” Genius!
And now, I have to return some videos.
