Kenny Scharf is one busy man! Late in 2010, he had a solo exhibition at The Hole and he also painted the very colorful mural located on Bowery and Houston. It was vandalized multiple times and Kenny came by and fixed it! His latest exhibit at Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York is a double dipping of Kenny Scharf goodness! At Paul Kasmin’s 293 10th Avenue location, a series of vivid works called “Naturafutura” are on display. The paintings were inspired by the surroundings of Scharf’s coastal studio in Bahia, Brazil. Many of the works in this series are also social commentary on the destruction of the environment.
But wait, there’s more! Down the street in the second Paul Kasmin Gallery location (511 West 27th Street), Kenny Scharf’s iconic donut paintings are on display. As expected, the exhibit “Three Dozen!” shows off, you guessed it – 3 dozen paintings of donuts!
Both exhibits run until February 26, 2011 so don’t miss your chance to see these wonderful works from a living legend, who along side with Basquiat and Keith Haring, transformed the New York art scene into what it is today.
