"New Works" by Barnaby Hosking. Now showing at Charles Bank Gallery in New York through March 26, 2011.

The Charles Bank Gallery in New York is exhibiting British artist Barnaby Hosking’s first solo exhibit in the United States.  The exhibit entitled “New Works” is very cool.  Barnaby Hosking plays with the traditional boundaries between art and objects. In the above photo, two vivid blue canvases hang on the walls of the Charles Bank Gallery.  As the viewer stops to admire the color, the projection of a bird emerges and flies across the canvases!

Again, you’ll have to see these wonderful works in person as still photos do not capture the brilliance. In the above image, 4 dark canvases are painted and display waterfalls and landscapes.  The top canvas features a body of water projected up on it bringing colorful relief to darkness.

Once again, this photo does not do justice to this 3-D piece that features butterfly wings protruding from the canvas.  When you move closer to the work, you’ll see that a projection fills in the missing portion of the butterfly, casting a shadow on the canvas giving you the complete image.  It’s really cool!

I was fortunate enough to attend the opening night gala reception and I got to meet artist Barnaby Hosking.  He was extremely nice and I was able to tell him how much I enjoyed the exhibit.  See a photo of that moment after the jump.

New Works by Barnaby Hosking is showing at Charles Bank Gallery in New York through March 26, 2011.  Charles Bank Gallery is located at 196 Bowery in Manhattan.
