White Rabbits
On February 26, 2011, Brooklyn based band White Rabbits played a sold out show at Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom. I knew very little about the group prior to seeing them live, but as I had read that Britt Daniel, the lead singer of Spoon, produced their 2009 album “It’s Frightening,” that was enough for me to try out a new experience. I am glad I went with my instincts as the show was awesome. After great sets from Cavemen and Arms, the six-piece indie rock band White Rabbits played for about an hour and a half, taking the stage just after 11 pm. More on Cavemen and Arms coming soon – stay tuned.

White Rabbits
Lead singer Stephen Patterson played piano in addition to vocals and had a great stage presence. The songs White Rabbits played were all upbeat and the audience danced along all night long. Highlights for me were “The Salesman” and “Rudie Fails.” The band also previewed some new songs that will most likely be on the band’s new record. Spotted in the crowd was Britt Daniel of Spoon, whom I said hello to on my way through the audience. See a spy photo of Britt Daniel as well as the setlist after the jump.

Mario Andretti
Happy 71st birthday to racer Mario Andretti who celebrates his big day on February 28. He’s pretty much won every racing award known to man and his name is synonymous with speed. He’s a really nice guy in person and he could teach that lesson to many people that will never even come close to accomplishing the things Mario Andretti has! Thanks Mario and have a great day!

Mila Kunis is Bored
Happy Post-Oscar discussion day. Here’s my thoughts: It’s always a dull show – what were you expecting? Sad that Banksy didn’t win but all the documentaries were great. Happy for Natalie Portman and Colin Firth and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Bummed that Social Network didn’t win best picture. Fashion is boring. James Franco is a pleasure to look at. I’ve met a lot of the people that died in the past year. I wonder if Florence Welch did a soundcheck?
What you got?

Linus Pauling
Scientist Linus Pauling would turn 110 today, February 28, 2011. The scientist won the Nobel Prize twice (in two different fields and shares that feat with Marie Curie) and was one of the first scientists to work in the fields of quantum chemistry and molecular biology. Pauling’s academic advisers were Niels Bohr and Erwin Schrodinger. He was also an advocate for peace and even though he was raised Lutheran, he announced he was an atheist 2 years before his death in 1994. Such an inspiration in every way. Happy birthday Linus!

Gilbert Gottfried
Happy birthday to actor/comedian Gilbert Gottfried who turns 56 today. I met him last year on the streets of New York and he was extremely nice! I love when that happens! Also born on this day: Brian Jones (from the Rolling Stones), singer Bernadette Peters, Tommy Tune and actor Charles Durning.
