Snow White by Michael Mararian. Now showing at Last Rites Gallery in New York through March 12, 2011.

American artist Michael Mararian has a new exhibit showing at Last Rites Gallery in New York entitled “Snow White.” The exhibit is a macabre take on the classic story.  According to Michael Mararian’s vision, the dwarves in his version of Snow White are are actually precocious goth children, some of which are mischievously participating in deviant behavior.  Love that!  For example, the character Sleepy per Michael Mararian is a kid who has passed out after drinking too much absinthe.  Genius!

You can’t see the vivid detail of the paintings from these pictures, so I recommend that you check out  these wonderful works of art for yourself at Last Rites.

(Pictured above:  Sneezy).  I can’t speak for you, but personally, I’d love to see a feature length adventure of Mararian’s take on Snow White.  As evidenced by these great works of art, there’d surely be great music and it would definitely be a party.  I was fortunate enough to attend the gala opening night reception and I got to meet the artist.  Michael Mararian was very cool!  See a photo of that experience after the jump.

Michael Mararian’s Snow White Runs through March 12, 2011 at Last Rites Gallery, Located at 511 West 33rd Street (West of 11th Ave) in NYC.
