Phil Collins

After a succession of ailments in recent years, including tinnitus, dislocated vertebra and nerve damage, which has left him struggling to play the drums, Phil Collins has reiterated his intention to retire from music.  I grew up in the post Peter Gabriel era of Genesis and when songs like “Home by The Sea” and “That’s All” were released, I became a die-hard.  I also think Genesis’ album “Invisible Touch” is a perfect record from start to finish.  It was not until I started this site that I realized how much people really dislike Phil Collins and it came as a surprise to me.  When you think of all the horrible songs that are household staples, I never thought Phil Collins’ name belonged on that list.  Sure his music in recent years is pretty much filled with sappy adult contemporary music, but he has so many classic songs, anyone’s golden streak doesn’t last forever.  I completely understand that old school Genesis fans might not be so happy with the direction the band went in once Phil took over on vocals, but it saddens me that he is so universally hated.  It almost drove him to suicide, but he did not want to do that to his young children.  I’m going on record and saying that I love Phil and I am sad to see him hang up his drum sticks.

I love Phil too. And I absolutely agree that Invisible Touch is an amazing album from beginning to end. I never knew people hated Phil & I don’t understand how that’s possible. He is an incredible talent & I am saddened that he’s retiring.
Did you know he was at WNYC (The Greene Space) maybe 2 weeks before we met there for Mark Ronson? I wish I had gone to that interview. I have always loved Phil & always will.
