Photos of Erica Simone’s photos by G.
Close to a year ago, I discovered the work of photographer Erica Simone. I had a strong feeling that we’d all be hearing and seeing a lot more from her and I am delighted to report that she did not make a liar out of me. Erica Simone’s exhibit “Nue York: Self-Portraits of a Bare Urban Citizen,” is now on display at the Dash Gallery in New York and it’s fantastic! For this body of work, Erica Simone decided to document typical situations that New Yorkers encounter daily but with a twist – being completely naked. News of the exhibit went viral across the world and Erica Simone was instantly catapulted onto the world stage.

As you peruse the exhibit, you’ll definitely find yourself questioning societal norms as you examine the concept of nudity and why it seems to always be perceived as something dirty. I attended the opening night gala reception at the Dash Gallery and the line to get in wrapped around the block.
I had the opportunity to chat with both Erica as well as her mom Adrian Leeds, and it was amazing to see so much love.
I highly recommend you check out “Nue York: Self-Portraits of a Bare Urban Citizen” by Erica Simone. In addition to seeing aesthetic beauty both from the artist and the photos themselves, you will also have an awful lot to think about long after you’ve left the gallery. “Nue York” runs until April 28th at the Dash Gallery in New York, which is located at 172 Duane Street in Manhattan. Don’t miss it!
