Missing: Ai Weiwei
I rarely read the news, so stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before. Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has been accused of plagiarizing a 2007 exhibit. The overly critical against the government Weiwei was detained on April 2, 2011 whilst boarding a flight to Hong Kong. Weiwei supporters are suggesting that he is being held in attempt to silence a vocal artist. The Foreign Ministry claims he is being investigated on for economic crimes and the Beijing police are denying the artist is in custody. This is a case of “there are three sides to every story.”
On a trip to the Guggenheim Mueseum in New York, I spotted the above sign:
“Missing.
Call Chinese Ambassador to the US Zhang Yesui.
Demand the release of artist Ai Weiwei
202-495-2266.”
Whose side are you on?
