Photos by G. Art by Oliver Vernon and James Roper (where noted).
California based artist Oliver Vernon has a great exhibit at the Joshua Liner Gallery in New York. This new body of work was inspired by the landscape of Northern California (produced since Vernon relocated his studio from Brooklyn), elements of the local environment—hills, forests, rivers, wide open sky—ground the artist’s cosmic wanderings in a new sense of place. All I can say is, whatever world this is, I want to move there immediately! The gorgeous detail cannot be seen in these photos, so think of this as a teaser until you see these works of art in person.
As a double bonus, there is a new exhibition from British artist James Roper entitled “All and Nothing” that is also on display at the gallery. After the jump, see a few images from James Roper as well as a picture of my encounter with Oliver Vernon from the opening night reception.
Oliver was super cool when we chatted and I was able to congratulate him on an amazing exhibition. Thanks to Oliver’s friend for taking the photo.
The Joshua Liner Gallery is located at 548 West 28th Street, 3rd Floor in New York. Both exhibits run until May 7, 2011. Don’t miss them!
