An Encounter With Mark Kostabi

Art lovers will automatically recognize Mark Kostabi’s name, but for the non-art people out there, let me catch you up with a few fun facts about Mark Kostabi. He created the “Use Your Illusion” by Guns N’ Roses album covers, he’s an accomplished painter, sculptor and musician. His art is featured in permanent collections in major museums across the world and he has been the subject of 3 documentary films. I met Mark Kostabi at the opening night reception for “Art on Art,” a group show at Adam Baumgold Gallery (located at 60 East 66th Street in Manhattan). Mark was very cool and he told me that he’ll be performing a free show with his band on May 18, 2011 at Kostabi World (located at 514 West 24th Street) and will also be doing some gigs at the Iridium Jazz Club in Manhattan later this year. I unfortunately did not realize that he was raised in Whittier, California and I graduated from Whittier College, so we could have probably gone on and on about that (perhaps lucky for him!) Lucky for me, Mark was cool enough to take a photo with me as you can see above. Below, is Mark Kostabi’s painting “Suicide By Modernism” which is featured in “Art on Art.”
Thanks again Mark!
