Today is the day. Lady Gaga’s new album “Born this Way,” sees its official release. Like the rest of the world, I received it when she streamed the entire record a week early. On my first listen, I rated the record a B+, perhaps because I was expecting it to be unlistenable. To be honest, when the songs come on my Ipod, I find myself flipping to the next song almost immediately, although I do think “Edge of Glory” and the song where she speaks German are catchy. Perhaps because she tries to dress like Madonna meets Siouxsie and sounds like a Christina Aguilera knock off, I am a little put off. She has an interesting, though not very original gimmick, and it’s almost as if her music is manufactured to appeal to the American Idol generation – aka the lowest common denominator in music taste. It’s very sad to me that this weekend with the non-event of The Rapture, organized religion was proved to be a total sham and it was usurped by news of Lady Gaga’s new album release! Way to go, world! So the next time you find yourself complaining about how bad things are on the planet, just remember: Lady Gaga loves you.
