Chris Garneau live at Bowery Ballroom
Photos by G.
On June 8, 2011, Baroque Pop singer Chris Garneau opened for Keren Ann at New York’s Bowery Ballroom. By the end of his 45 minute set, the singer/songwriter had turned everyone in the venue into fans. In between songs, Garneau was very soft spoken but his songs were very powerful. To me, his voice sounded like a cross between Ray LaMontagne and Jeff Buckley! Though it was 97 degrees in New York, Chris Garneau sang songs about winter to cool us off. He also had a song about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer! Garneau’s music is whimsical and is uplifiting, contemplative and beautiful all at the same time. Occasionally, he was accompanied only by piano, but for most of the set he was backed with a horn and string section! He’ll be on tour with Keren Ann throughout the month of June, 2011, so if you are going to her show, make sure to get there early.
I met Chris after his awesome set and he was very nice. You can see a photo from my encounter with Chris Garneau after the jump.
Thanks again Chris!
