Hot band alert! If you don’t know the delicious grooves of indie-electronic band Foster The People, put them on your radar immediately! The 5 piece band from California played a sold out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on June 21, 2011. The night was fantastic in every way as the songs were super catchy, the band has a great stage presence and they had a light show that made it impossible not to turn the venue into one gigantic dance party. Foster the People took the stage at 10:15 after a set from Cannon Blue.
Lead singer Mark Foster plays keyboards, percussion, guitar and sings. He also serves as pied piper and when he dances during the songs, you cannot help but follow suit. I’ve been enjoying the band’s debut album “Torches” for a while and I am happy to report they deliver the goods in concert. They played all the songs you could hope for and the highlights were the ultra-catchy “Helena Beat,” “Pumped Up Kicks,” “Houdini” and my current favorite “Miss You.” The band used strobe lights during the songs and it added to a fantastic overload of the senses. If the reaction from the audience is a predictor of future success, you can guarantee that seeing the band at an intimate venue like Bowery Ballroom is going to be one of those special New York nights that the people in attendance will be bragging about for years to come.
