Stonewall

The scene at Stonewall in Greenwich Village on June 24, 2011

Gay marriage became legal in New York on June 24, 2011.  Do you feel more free?  Freedom sure looked a mob scene contained by barricades from my perspective as I passed the historic Stonewall bar in Greenwich Village en route to a concert after the news broke.  Don’t get me wrong – I am very happy this “law” passed.  However, I’ve never needed a “law” to dictate my happiness.  Now when gay couples break up, they can go through the legal process and throw money down the toilet to reclaim their “freedom” just like straight people instead of just settling matters like grown ups.  It doesn’t seem like progress to me.  Maybe this is why I am (happily) single?
