Keren Ann live at Bowery Ballroom

Israeli singer Karen Ann played a sold out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on June 8, 2011. Singer/songwriter Chris Garneau opened the show and got the crowd warmed up for a great night of music. In an hour and a half, Keren Ann tapped into so many genres of music from folk to pop but one thing is certain, Keren Ann rocked! As she took the stage, the title track off her new album “101″ was played and it’s a “12 days of Christmas” style run down of 101 items. For those wondering, the final item was: One God. Keren Ann told the crowd so many times how happy she was to be playing for us and in fact told us that we were her husband. Her voice is amazing and her guitar playing skills are great. It’s not easy to pull off switching genres from folk to alternative and back, but Keren Ann and her band did so effortlessly. Highlights for me were “Sugar Mama” and “Sailor N Widow,” which featured vocals that were spoken very fast. She ended the night with a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Mama You Were On My Mind,” but of course, Keren Ann changed it to “Daddy You Were On My Mind.”
See the set list as well as a photo of my backstage encounter with Keren Ann after the jump.
Thanks Keren Ann! Can’t wait to see you live again (and hopefully soon)!!
