“The Art Army Royalty” by Michael Leavitt

Seattle-based artist Michael Leavitt’s latest exhibition “The Art Army Royalty” at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York is epic. This exhibit focuses on the biggest contemporary artists in the game. His statues of each artist capture their essence so perfectly, you will walk away from the gallery with a big smile on your face. The action figure sized statues feature Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Ai Weiwei, Chuck Close, Cindy Sherman, Cy Twombly, Julian Schnabel, Tom Sachs and Murakami, just to name a few – with over 20 statues in total.
I met Michael Leavitt at the opening night reception and I asked him what the reaction was from the artists who he’s immortalized. Surprisingly, he said that he has not received much feedback at all. Let’s put it out there to the people in the know to spread the word. I think they’ll love them. You can see a photo from this conversation after the jump. You should also check out Leavitt’s official site (link is at the top of this article), where you can see pictures of the rest of the Art Army.
Also showing at Jonathan LeVine Gallery, is a solo exhibit by Dylan Egon called “Home of the Brave.” Both exhibits will be up through October 8, 2011. The Jonathan LeVine Gallery is located at 529 West 20th Street #9E in Manhattan. Don’t miss it!
Thanks for being so cool Michael! If you ever do a series of famous bloggers, I’m giving you image approval rights.
