It’s been 10 years since Lady Bunny performed a proper solo show.  Her show “That Ain’t No Lady” at Escuelita in New York was worth the wait.  Lady Bunny works it in so many ways.  She looks great, she will keep you laughing the entire night (even after you’ve left the venue) and she will push out your boundaries of tasteless a little further.  Though some might find her act offensive, no subject is too taboo for her.  In between riffing with the crowd (which included superstars Joey Arias, Basil Twist, Flotilla DeBarge, Sherry Vine and Antony of Antony and the Johnsons, on the night I attended), we saw videos of Lady Bunny’s hilarious song parodies that had lyrics about using diarrhea as a lubricant, dog come and dick cheese, just to name a few examples.  Lady Bunny also talked about how gays used to set the standard for what’s cool on the dance floor, but with the invention of pop trash such as Lady Gaga and Rihanna, we’ve just become robots who refuse to go underground and step outside of the mainstream.  Though I could see tears in a lot of people’s eyes, everyone knows that Lady Bunny speaks the truth.

“That Ain’t No Lady” starring Lady Bunny is being performed every Tuesday through the end of November, 2011.  Find out more on Lady Bunny’s official site, or through Esquilta.  Don’t miss this show.  It’s friggin’ fantastic!

I met Lady Bunny after the show and she was so cool (and fierce!).  Thanks Lady Bunny!
