"Mother" by Nir Hod. Now showing at Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York through April 28, 2012.

Nir Hod’s latest exhibit, “Mother” at Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York is one that will definitely bend your noodle!  It features 10 paintings referencing an iconic photograph of Nazi soldiers clearing out the Warsaw Ghetto called “Boy From Warsaw” taken by the Nazi photographer Franz Konrad in 1943.  Nir Hod’s twist is that the paintings focus on the anonymous woman rather than the iconic boy!

By removing the boy from the paintings, it’s up to the viewer to come up with their own interpretation of what is going through the mind of this tragically beautiful woman.  Each painting has subtle differences and when you see the set of 10 paintings side by side, be prepared to be moved!
