Chicago’s 2nd Friday Art Crawl
Photos by G. Various Artists.
I visited Chicago recently and I wanted to tell you about one of the coolest things I discovered in the Windy City. On the second Friday of the month starting off on 18th and South Halstad Street from 6 – 10 PM, over 30 galleries in the area participate in an art crawl.
The art varied in size, shape and medium (including performance art) and on the night I went, the free event brought out a very mixed crowd, which was really inspiring to see. As we toured the various galleries, it gave an outsider like me a glimpse of the art community in Chicago.
Doing some research about the art walk made me like this even more as these spaces are owned by the Podmajersky family. They launched the Chicago Arts District (CAD) in 2002 with the goal of creating a destination art community and economic stability for artists looking to become entrepreneurs. That is so awesome, according2g!
You can read more about this really cool project and art walk on the official Chicago Arts District website. If you live in the Chicago area, you should definitely take advantage of this event and if you are visiting, you might want to plan a trip to coincide with the second Friday of the month.
