November 20, 2012 was a night of great music at Bowery Ballroom in New York. The show featured Reputante, a last minute semi-surprise set from We Are Scientists and Ireland’s Ash.
Reputante are a pop/rock band whose studio recordings are a collaboration with lead singer James Levy and Ash’s Tim Wheeler. You can sample the goods by downloading (for a limited time), a free track entitled “Lock Me Up” from the group’s Bandcamp page.
It was a last minute addition to an already great lineup when a few days ago We Are Scientists were added to the bill. It was good to see that We Are Scientists’ drummer Andy Burrows was back with the band. Their set (as advertised) was a brief 5 or 6 song (and if someone has the set list, please let us know). I didn’t see one laying around at the show and for some reason I know their music but not the names of the songs. I’m blaming the invention of iPod shuffle mode instead of my fading memory bank. 🙂
We Are Scientists exited the stage but returned about 2 hours later when they were brought on stage for Ash’s second encore. More about that in a second.
Ash hit the stage around 10:20 pm and played for close to two hours. Song after song were just rockin’ as Tim Wheeler and company are celebrating over 20 years in the music business. They performed selections from all phases of their career including the often covered “Shining Light,” “A Life Less Ordinary” and “Joy Kicks Darkness,” which Ash proclaimed as their favorite song to play live. For the second encore, the supergroup of Ash and We Are Scientists all got on stage and played two covers – Mudhoney’s “Touch Me I’m Sick” and Weezer’s “Only In Dreams.” Thanks to all 3 bands for a great night of rock and roll!
See Ash’s set list after the jump.
