Several years ago, I was exposed to the art of Olek and it was love at first sight. The “Goddess of Crochet” closed her exhibit “The End is Far” at Jonathan Levine Gallery on March 23, 2013 and she was in attendance for its final day. If you missed seeing this exhibit, you missed a visual treat that really makes you wonder how she did it. It’s been so exciting to watch her career explode onto the the headlines of worldwide publications and in just a few short years, she’s had exhibits in Los Angeles, New York, England as well as being part of an exhibit in the Smithsonian in Washington DC. She’s seamlessly crocheted the gallery and street art worlds together with renegade billboards and public installations across the globe. I spoke with Olek and we talked about the many wins and successes she’s been so deservedly enjoying. While she would not spill the beans on what she’s working on next, she told me that she is already in the planning stages and there is no doubt that whatever she comes up with will outdo her latest mind-blowing exhibit. Stay tuned!
