It’s no secret that I love Mac Demarco.  I interviewed him in 2012 for MTV’s show “Weird Vibes,” and Mac was so nice, so funny and is a good kisser!  If you think I am bullshitting, check out the episode here!  Ever since the interview, Ive been listening to Mac’s albums “Rock and Roll Night Club” and “2” in heavy rotation.  I finally got the chance to see him live on March 1, 2013 at his very sold out show at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg.  Not only was Mac great in concert, but I found my cheeks hurting from smiling so hard.

The internet describes Mac Demarco’s music as “slacker rock.”  Ha!  But Mac is anything but a slacker.  At age 22, he’s been performing for years, already has two records out and is selling out medium sized concert venues.  What were you doing at that age?  His music features songs that are short and sweet and have a nice groove to them with vocals that at times sound like he’s a 1950s crooner and other times a garage rocker.  He was in a great mood last night and thanked the crowd so many times for coming out to the show.

Before the night was over, Mac crowd surfed, told funny stories in between songs using voice that sounded a little like Wolfman Jack, sang at least 15 songs such as the irresistible “Annie,” “Cooking Up Something Good,” “Rock and Roll Night Club,” “I’m a Man,” “One More Tear To Cry,” and “Viceroy,” did a brief cover of The Beatles’ “Blackbird,” and brought his girlfriend Kira up on stage to dedicate “Still Together” to her.

The crowd loved the show too and they showered Mac with love by throwing packs of cigarettes onto the stage, literally shouted “I love you Mac” between songs and didn’t drop Mac this time when he stage dove into the crowd (he mentioned that last time he was here, the crowd dropped him).  All of this love made Mac grin from ear to ear and his smile is infectious.  After the show, Mac Demarco talked to fans at the merch table and it was a perfect end to a perfect night. If you haven’t heard Mac Demarco’s music, remedy that immediately.  You will love it! I heart you, Mac!
