On August 22, 2013, New York’s rock and roll elite joined forces for a special concert at the Bowery Hotel. Benjamin Curtis of the band School of Seven Bells has been undergoing treatment for T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma and the event “Put Your Sad Down,” (named after a song by School of Seven Bells) helped raise money for his medical costs. Albert Hammond Jr. of the Strokes and Paul Banks of Interpol performed solo sets in the swanky hotel, while Alexa Chung and actor Danny Masterson DJed in between sets. Paul Banks performed tracks from his solo albums including “Summertime Is Coming,” “Games For Days” and “I’ll Sue You.” There were some great items that were auctioned off (including items signed by The Black Keys and Radiohead). Spotted in the crowd were members of School of Seven Bells and Joe Jonas (who, along with his brothers had donated merchandise to be auctioned off). Based on the packed crowd, I really hope the event raised a lot of money for Benjamin Curtis. I’ve seen him in concert and met him several times and he has been extremely personable each time. Get well soon Benjamin!!!
