Photos by G. Art by Barry McGee.
The self titled exhibit by Barry McGee at Cheim & Read in New York is a must see show! This exhibit marks the first show in New York in 8 years from the San Francisco street artist turned gallery artist.
Barry McGee’s works are huge in scale with each work containing numerous works within them. Trippy patterns, McGee’s signature phrases such as “DFW” (short for “Down For Whatever”) or his pseudonym L. Fong are ever present in these works and you’ll find yourself staring at his art for hours and you will still discover things you hadn’t seen before.
Barry McGee at Cheim & Read is showing through October 26, 2013. For more details click here.
I met the artist at the opening night reception and it was an experience for the books. Let me set the scene – it is raining so hard outside that even with an umbrella, being outside ensures you will be drenched instantly. The galleries in Chelsea are PACKED – some to avoid getting wet, some to look at the art. It’s crowded, hot and steamy in all the galleries and most everyone is soaked. But with that being said, I tracked down Barry McGee and he decided he wanted to do a ‘funny’ photo with me, so he grabbed me by the head and I took the snap. Works for me! Thanks again Barry!
