Happy birthday to actor and writer Wallace Shawn!  I love him.  If you’ve never seen (or read) “My Dinner With Andre,” you are missing out on an epic conversation between two long lost friends who discuss all types of spiritual concepts as they reunite.  Definitely a must see/read.  Thanks for being super cool Wally and hope you have the happiest of birthdays today!

Horrible news in the music world.  Rock god Lou Reed has died at age 71.  I’m a huge Velvet Underground fan as well as also having loved Lou’s solo career, so I am not doing so well as I write this.  Lou opened the door for all musicians to come after him by being one of the first art rockers.  Songs like “Heroin” and “Walk on the Wild Side” took you on the trip without getting your hands dirty and songs like “Perfect Day” and “Sunday Morning” are amongst the prettiest tracks ever recorded.  I saw Lou Reed out and about in New York many times and for the two good experiences I had with him, I had probably 5 times as many bad ones.  But that was Lou Reed and I will miss seeing him.  I wish peace and blessings to his partner Laurie Anderson at this difficult time.  Happy trails, Lou.  Thanks for a lifetime of amazing music.  Rest in peace!

Sad news!  Actress Marcia Wallace has passed away at the age of 71, according to the internet.  Marcia Wallace was receptionist Carol Kester on The Bob Newhart Show and was also the voice of Mrs. Krabappel on The Simpsons.  I met Marcia many times over the years and she was always super sweet. I remember the first time I saw her flash her signature smile in person, it really lit up my day. May she rest in peace.

On August 13, 2013, the Apple Store in Manhattan hosted one of their “Meet The Filmmaker” series events featuring some of the cast and crew of the upcoming film “Austenland.”  If these pix whet your appetite of what transpired, you can download a podcast of the event on i-Tunes for free!  The event featured leading lady Keri Russell, director Jerusha Hess, producer Stephenie Meyer (who wrote “Twilight”) and actor JJ Feild.

The film focuses on a die-hard Jane Austen fan who goes on a retreat to a Jane Austen theme park.  From there drama, comedy and possibly love ensue.  Though I am not a huge fan of Jane Austen myself, the concept of the movie sounds pretty cool.  I guess the world can judge its execution when the film is released theatrically.

Happy birthday to actress and hot thang Olivia Munn who was born on July 3.  It’s also the birthday of Tom Cruise, actress/singer Audra McDonald, as well as the death day of one of my gods, Jim Morrison.  Strangely enough, he broke on through on July 3, 1971 and future outlaw Julian Assange was born on the very same day.  Coincidence?
