Born of Egyptian and Lebanese decent, folk/rock chanteuse NEeMA presence on and off stage is powerful and charismatic, and her voice is honest and unique. In association with production from Leonard Cohen and Pierre Marchand (Sarah McLachlan, Ron Sexsmith), NEeMA’s second album “Watching You Think” will be released on March 1, 2011 (on Sony International). NEeMA’s voice features comparable elements of Natalie Merchant, Joni Mitchell and Poe!
I was fortunate enough to obtain an advanced copy of “Watching You Think” and the entire album is great! It’s mellow and moody with great lyrics and unique vocal delivery. Stand out tracks include the ballad “Lost In L.A.” which is a melancholy love letter to the city of broken dreams, the mid-tempo “Jealousy” as well as a cover of the Dire Straits’ classic “Romeo and Juliet.” For a limited time, you can download the track “Escape” here.
You can also catch NEeMA on tour. Her 2011 schedule is as follows:
02/19 Carlsbad, CA @ Sunset Sessions
03/16-19 Austin, TX @ SXSW
03/30 New York, NY @ Joes Pub 7:30 pm
04/05 Evanston, IL @ SPACE – opening for Jesse Winchester
