Lines which do not exist by Gerhard Richter at the Drawing Center in NYC.

The Drawing Center in New York is currently presenting over 50 works by German artist Gerhard Richter in a presentation called “Lines Which Do No Exist.”  You’ll see a selection of watercolor, graphite, and ink on paper drawings by Richter made in the period of 1966 to 2005.  Would love to know what his reaction to being name checked in the Pet Shop Boys song “Love Etc.” is.  The Drawing Center is located at 35 Wooster Street in New York and the exhibit runs until November 18, 2010.

Status Factory by Ron English

Status Factory by Ron English now showing at the Opera Gallery in New York through October 29, 2010

New Yorkers.  Run, don’t walk to check out one of the coolest exhibitions you’ll ever see!  Pop artist Ron English has an amazing exhibit at the Opera Gallery (located in an awesome pop-up space) on 382 West Broadway in New York.  If you’ve never seen the documentary Popaganda about Ron English’s life, it’s highly recommended but not required if you know nothing about him prior to seeing this exhibit.  After you visit the Opera Gallery and see all the wonderful works by this tremendously gifted artist, if you haven’t seen the film (which is being screened in the basement of the exhibit), you’ll definitely add it to the top of your list upon exiting the gallery.  As you can see from these images (which are just a few of the hundreds of works on display), English takes jabs at the gluttonous pop culture generation that we live in in the same vein as Banksy.  The major difference is that Ron English was around 25+ years before Banksy and I think we should all take a few moments to bow down to his greatness.

See some more images of Ron English’s work from this not-to-be-missed exhibition, after the jump.

Jim Morrison at the Morrison Hotel

Jim Morrison by Joel Brodsky at the Morrison Hotel in New York.

Only in my life could a place called the Morrison Hotel be located on Prince Street (my two favorite singers of all time)!  The Morrison Hotel is not just a place – it’s an amazing art gallery that has all kinds of amazing rock and roll ephemera and their current exhibit (at the location on 124 Prince Street) is one of the late Joel Brodsky, who captured so many iconic images of Jim Morrison.  You are probably familiar with the images, but when you see the prints blown up, you might wet yourself as I did.  The photos look like they were taken yesterday and they are simply stunning to feast your eyes on.  Since the photos are copy written, I was allowed to take gallery view shots and present them to you.  If you are a fan of The Doors, you owe it to yourself to catch this exhibit – it will really light your fire.  Check the Morrison Hotel Gallery website for more details.

The poster for Christopher Makos' Polaroids exhibit. Now showing at the Christopher Henry Gallery through May 23, 2010.

At the Christopher Henry Gallery in New York is an exhibit not to be missed:Christopher Makos’ Polaroids.  Makos is an American artist whose photos have been seen all over the world in magazines and exhibits alike.  He was a good friend to Andy Warhol and he introduced the works of Keith Haring and Basquiat to Andy!  This show has candid shots of Debbie Harry of Blondie, Andy Warhol and Velvet Underground’s Lou Reed, just to name a few.  The folks at the Christopher Henry Gallery were kind enough to let me post a few photos I took at the exhibit, but I’d like to reiterate that seeing them on a website and seeing them with your own eyes are vastly different experiences.  The exhibit runs through May 23, 2010 and the gallery, located at 127 Elizabeth Street is open from Wednesday through Sunday from 11 am – 6 pm.  Don’t miss out!

See a few photos after the jump.
