Allan Neuwirth

Allan Neuwirth is a New York legend!  The man does it all from animation to film production.  He is also half of the creative team behind the wildly popular weekly comic strip “Chelsea Boys” (with Glen Hanson).  We at According2g wish Allan a very happy birthday today.  You must read Neuwirth’s book, They’ll Never Put That On The Air – An Oral History of Taboo-Breaking TV Comedy.   You will hear (or read in this case) every juicy story about all the greatest TV shows from Green Acres to Seinfeld.  On a personal note, Allan Neuwirth was one of the first people I met when I moved to New York 5 years ago and having the chance to pick his brain about all things New York really helped make my transition across the country much smoother.  Thanks again for that Allan and I hope you have a very happy birthday today!

Getting Over Him In 8 Songs Or Less - Coming soon to HBO!

One of the great parts of writing this blog is that it forces me to do interesting things. Tonight was no exception as I attended an exclusive screening of HBO’s latest documentary – “Getting Over Him in 8 Songs or Less.”??? This 1/2 hour animated work was masterfully written, animated and sung by Debra Solomon.  The show is about a woman who has recently been fired and has also broken up with her long term partner… and how she gets over him in 8 songs… or less. The songs in the show will have you bursting with laughter and also pondering – “how in the world did she get inside my head?!”  Debra perfectly captures the feelings of isolation, retail therapy, feeling like a loser and also rebuilding in this film.  Make no mistake, the animation is really cool too!

After the screening, we were treated to a Q&A with the film maker as moderated by the uber-talented writer, author, film maker and animator Allan Neuwirth.  You must read Neuwirth’s book, They’ll Never Put That On The Air – An Oral History of Taboo-Breaking TV Comedy.  You will hear (or read in this case) every juicy story about all the greatest TV shows from Green Acres to Seinfeld.  See some pictures of Allan Neuwirth and Debra Solomon after the jump.  Don’t forget that “Getting Over Him in 8 Songs or Less” airs on HBO2 on Valentines Day.
