Mark Grotjahn at Anton Kern Gallery in New York. Now showing through June 25, 2011.
If you’ve never had a chance to see California-based artist Mark Grotjahn’s works in person, head over to the Anton Kern Gallery in New York and prepare your eyes for a visual treat. On display are a series of nine large-scale “face paintings.” These new works are based on the geometric structure of the eyes, nose and mouth. You cannot possibly see all the detail in these photos nor enjoy the vivid colors as you will by seeing these works in the flesh. For the non-New Yorkers, a catalog essay will be published in June, so be on the look out for that.
I attended the opening night reception and I got a chance to meet Mark Grotjahn. He demonstrated a real live face painting for me, as you will see, after the jump.
