A few months ago, I told you to put the band Young Empires on your radar. From the opening notes of their live debut in New York, I was immediately hooked. That night, they stole the show and I knew it would be a matter of time until the band was headlining their own shows. After a cherry opening slot for Jamiroquai in South America and being named one of the best bands at South By Southwest, it should come as no surprise that Young Empires played their first headlining gig on April 7, 2011 at New York’s Studio at Webster Hall. As always, the dance/punk Canadian trio kept the crowd dancing throughout their entire set, which included many new tracks making their live debut in New York. The reaction from the crowd to the new material was great. In addition to songs such as the laid back “The Earth Plates Are Shifting,” and the soon-to-be dancefloor anthem “Let You Sleep Tonight,” Young Empires also played their classics “Glory of the Night,” “Against the Wall,” “Rain of Gold,” and “White Doves.” A great time was had by all and it’s very exciting to see what the future has in store for Young Empires, who will be releasing their debut album in 2011.
The video you are about to see, “Enter Through The Sun,” was part of Young Empires recent Daytrotter Session, which can be downloaded for free here. Highly recommended! And now, enjoy Young Empires live in New York on April 7, 2011 performing “Enter Through The Sun.” Kick it!
