We Are Augustines

Bill McCarthy of We Are Augustines

Rising from the ashes of the former indie-rock band Pela, We Are Augustines was born.  Performing along side Zach Williams and the Bellow and The Boxer Rebellion, We Are Augustines rocked the house at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on April 13, 2011.  Wearing his finest Indiana Jones hat, Billy McCarthy and company played a solid and emotionally charged 40 minute set.  An acoustic version of Tom Petty’s “Even The Losers” brought the already adoring crowd to it’s knees!

You can download some free tracks on the official site of We Are Augustines.  Highly recommended.  I met lead singer Billy McCarthy after their awesome set and he was very cool.  By that point in the night, he’d taken off his hat, but he rocked it for our photo together.  That is rock and roll, folks!  See it, after the jump.

Hot band alert!  On April 13, 2011, 8-piece indie-folk/rock band Zach Williams and the Bellow did just that at New York’s Bowery Ballroom.  From the second they hit the stage until the end of their 40 minute set, Zach Williams and the Bellow had the sold out crowd grooving in rapt amazement.  Every song sounded like a stadium anthem.  Song after song was more climactic and by the end of the show stealing set, the band surely gained 500 new fans.   Backed with a male and female vocalist, the trio of harmonizing on every song would make Fleetwood Mac proud.  You can download a few free tracks on Zach Williams’ official site, and I highly recommend it!  Put this band on your radar.  They are going to be huge!

After the set, I met Zach Williams and I congratulated him on a wonderful set.  As I was entering the venue, I ran into the singer and seconds later, I tripped on the stairs right in front of the superstar in the making. DOH!  Though he did not laugh at me, see the face he made telling me to be more careful – after the jump.

Nathan Nicholson of The Boxer Rebellion

On April 13, 2011, The Boxer Rebellion rocked the roof off New York’s Bowery Ballroom.  After great sets by Zach Williams and the Bellow and We Are Augustines (more on each band coming soon), TBR hit the stage at 10:30 and played for 2 hours!  Mixing old material with songs from their latest album “The Cold Still,” The Boxer Rebellion kept the audience mesmerized for their entire set.

The Boxer Rebellion

The Boxer Rebellion’s music takes you on a journey and each of their 3 albums are meant to be enjoyed as a whole instead of the typical “hit and album filler” formula that so many bands adhere to.  I loved the whole show and highlights for me were “Spitting Fire,” “Semi-Automatic,” and “If You Run,” (which was featured on the “Going The Distance” soundtrack).  After the set, the band hung out at the merch table and greet fans.  Lead singer Nathan Nicholson was extremely cool.  See a photo of my encounter with him as well as the set list after the jump.
